Objectives

The main objective of this project will be to protect this unique peat-swamp forest. The project will work to strengthen the conservation management of both protected and unprotected areas within the Katingan-Kahayan landscape in Central Kalimantan; and will work with several different stakeholders to achieve this.

The main aims are:

  1. To support local capacity development to implement, improve and encourage replication of peatland restoration efforts throughout the target landscape.
  2. To support the community to develop more ‘peat-friendly’ agriculture and livelihoods in peatland areas, and empower them to tackle peatland fire and degradation impacts.
  3. To enhancing long-term sustainable management of peatlands by local government and community stakeholders, by expanding community forest management,  supporting implementation of long-term management plans and capacity building.
